Anti-riot policemen use water cannons to disperse some 3,000 demonstrators during a protest outside the presidential palace, April 6, 2006. About a dozen people were hurt on Thursday when anti-riot police clashed with leftist activists calling for President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to step down. The protesters were able to reach a no rally zone close to the palace for the first time after President Arroyo’s declared a week-long state of emergency last mounth.
